Doing Our Part to Support the Church!

Some facts about giving to Holy Anargyroi on an Annual Basis and eliminating our Mortgage.

We need YOUR support!

Did you know that OUR church receives no financial support other than what our members and visitors give?

A great many of us who attend Holy Anargyroi Church, whether we are permanent residents of the Rochester area, or are here for just a few years, or are visiting for just a few days receiving medical services at the Mayo Clinic, originate from countries that support their Churches through government funds. This is not the case in this country! Our government does not help pay for the annual running of any church or assist financially when a church is built or remodeled.

How does our Church receive her financial support?

Our Church depends on the annual giving of those who attend our Church or who are visiting Rochester for medical care. The Church also has several fundraisers in which we ask each family to pitch in and help work for the progress of our Church and for fellowship with each other

What can We do?

Whether we live here permanently, only for a few years, or a short medical stay, we can all do our part! At this point our Church has two great needs!

1. That we ALL give on Annual Basis to our Operational Budget.

2. That we ALL give to our Building Fund .

Our Annual Operational Budegt

Our annual budget, which includes the maintenance and operations of our Church has increased drastically in the last several years. Our budget has more than doubled since 1986. We each need to take very personal look at our selves and ask if our giving to the Church has also doubled. Are we still annually giving the same amount we gave 10 years ago? God asked the children of Isreal to "tithe", that is to give 10% of their income. This should be our standard! Our annual budget now exceeds $200,000 per year. All this must come from our annual giving and fundraisers.

How can we do our part?

Every year in November, we ask that each family or individual make a pledge towards the operational expenses of our Church for the next year. Many people choose to give this amount on a weekly or monthly basis, others give once a year. The Church will provide us envelopes as needed.

The Building Fund

After years of planning and fundraising, we moved into our new Church in 2004. We are truly all blessed to have a beautiful Church, and we must appreciate those who sacrificed for it. It was over 100 families who in the last 5 years made a financial commitment to our new church on top of what they were already giving to our annual budget. It was also the many visitors who gave large gifts to see our Orthodox Church continue here in Rochester.

Our Mortgage and what I can do to help.

Our goal is to pay the mortgage on our new Church at the end of 2011. To this end we are about $350,000 short of our goal.To meet this mortgage, we have asked each family to commit or recommit to a five year pledge which will begin in 2007 and end in 2011. This pledge should represent “the best” we can possibly give. Each should give as God has blessed. Each should do their part! Great and small!

What should I give?

Our giving should be done freely, with sacrifice and joy! The Old Testament directs us to “tithe” or give at least 10% of our annual income. According to this guideline, the total amount we give to both the annual operational expenses and the building fund should be based on the following scale:

$20,000 income: Annual giving $2,000

$40,000 income: Annual giving $4,000

$60,000 income: Annual giving $6,000

$80,000 income: Annual giving $8,000

$100,000 income: Annual giving $10,000

$150,000 income: Annual giving $15,000

What Other Ways can I give?

STOCKS

Many people choose to give appreciated stocks to the church. This offers a higher tax break for charitable giving.

ESTATE PLANNING

We ask that each person consider placing our Church in his/her will. Giving a part of one’s estate whether it be a life insurance policy, property, or a cash amount, can really help the church in the future. Setting an example for your family will show them not only your care for them, but also your love for God and His house!
